Caipirinha mixed by Fatboy Slim
Have you thought of mixing Fatboy Slim, Rio de Janeiro, amazing babes and 200.000 freaks up? So, last Sunday I had one of the most amazing experiences in my entire life. DJ Pative, DJ Marky and Jon Carter were warming everybody up and everybody including themselves were expecting a guy wearing a flowered shirt to turn up a concert that was going to change all Brazilian’s concepts about having fun.
At exactly 4:30 pm DJ Patife came on stage to spin up some records, accompanied by MC Stamina and MC Cleveland, Patife did a soft intro to Big Beach Boutique 3. The two MCs were singing in English and trying to sing some slang words in Portuguese, it made everybody enjoy the set and also have a laugh with them. The best part of his set was when he played his most famous song called “Sambassim”, originally recorded with the singer Fernanda Porto. On his set he also played “Torch of freedom”, made with MC Cleveland and “Crazy in love” by Beyoncé. A typical pop set to start off.
Then DJ Marky laid on a drum’n bass set with a lot of scratching and gave everybody an unforgettable tribute of Bob Marley playing “Every little thing”. Marky is not from Rio de Janeiro but he was playing with the same vibe that he plays in Sao Paulo or London clubs. At this time the crowd was getting bigger and bigger and Fatboy Slim was watching everything at the side of the stage, hiding him self behind some boxes. To finalize his set Mark wound up with one of his most famous hits, “LK”. After his exhibition everybody knew why He is one of the best drum’s bass DJ’s in the world.
Jon Carter is not very well known in Brazil and for sure he wasn’t the most expected attraction of the day. After two Brazilian DJ’s the crowd was chanting for Fatboy Slim. Carter had to show why he was on the line up and played some remixes of Eminen (Without me) and “Groove is in the heart”, a classic by Dee-lite. His set was a bit short and too technical and aggressive at times. But the sun was rising and the monster of the day had to grab the stage. Ladies and gentlemen, the most smiling English guy, Mr. Norman Cook, oops, Mr. Fatboy Slim.
And then the crowd went mental, exploded, freaked! 200.000 people shouting themselves hoarse. Bug eyes appearing and smiley flags being waved as well as a lot of Brazilian flags. He was about to cry, the landscape was amazing, pretty cool sunrise, babes freaking out and a vibe that can’t be described. Lots of references about Brazilian music were in his play list. Just to begin, the classic of Brazilian Bossa Nova music made by Tom Jobim and Vinícius de Moraes, “Girl from Ipanema”. Sunset was coming, then he come out with “Rio” by Duran Duran, “Quem te caguetou” of DJ’s Tejo, Speed and Black Alien. To prove his technique he played “Belo Horizonti” by The Heartist remixed by Basement Jaxx and did an amazing switch rocking the beach to “Born Slippy” of Underworld. Everybody was expecting this song and at that time he realized that the crowd was in fantastic mood and having a lot of fun.
To improve his perform once, he took his flowered shirt off and wore a Brazilian football t-shirt with the name of Pelé on the back. Oh, my good! We loved it, we love it. Brazilians are mad about football, babes, beaches and good drums….. So we had everything together, Mr. Fatboy Slim gave us this as he gave to Brighton. Two countries that have so many different things but so much in common.
As Carter, he included “Groove is In The Heart” of Dee-lite and “I Feel Love” by Donna Summer” into his play list. After that “Seven Nation Army” of White Stripes followed by “Fucking In Heaven”. To conclude, “Party People” of Royal House with “Born Slippy” (again!!!). Mental, no one could believe he had such a good play list with lots of Brazilian drums and classical songs that have been bouncing everybody around for so many years.
There is no Big Beach Boutique with no fireworks. At this time I saw a girl crying very close to me and everybody was glad to be there. The DVD is coming and you guys are going to know what I mean. We cannot compare the 3 editions of BBB and we have to admit that this guy is gonna be forever in our mind. Love is true. Fatboy loves Brazil, we love The UK, everybody loves having fun.
By the way, for those who don’t know what a Caipirinha is It’s the traditional Alcoholic drink of Brazil. First you mix Ice + Sugar + Cachaça (a kind of Brazilian vodka) and grind it all together, then add more cachaça. The lime is the green in the flag, add a green and a yellow strow, say chears, drink, and welcome to Brazil with caipirinha.
